I remember a few years ago, they found a Dad's Army that had been filmed in colour then kinescoped for distribution in a country that only had black and white. They remastered and digitised the black and white copy and then restored the colour by reading the chroma dots and then the computer worked out the RGB values of each pixel from that. Now you can use AI to remaster a video that was never in colour before- it's quite incredible! Do you ever have to change the colour the AI comes up with, or is the choice always plausible enough not to need changing? Also, does the AI boost the resolution from 405 line (roughly 360i) to 576i or better? I take it all Dr. Whos for the first few years were recorded and distributed on 405-line videotape rather than film or 576i BW videotape?

I don't normally like colourisation, tend to feel that if something was made to be seen in black and white, then it's probably best to view it in black and white. But I quite like this. It just looks real.

I love how he ad-libbed to give the impression that the control was stiff just to tie in with the slow camera panning on the museum. People like to criticise or ridicule Hartnell for messing up his lines, but Troughton was just better at thinking on his feet and covering mistakes.

What do you use to colourise and what are your steps for colourisation? Would you ever consider making a tutorial or Timelapse of a colourisation?

Color works PERFECTLY for Pertwee, I grew up having to watch my 80's PBS recordings of The Silurians, Terror of the Autons, Mind of Evil, and The Daemons in black and white, and I actually didn't think I would enjoy those stories in color until the official vhs releases came out in the 90's, I thought that color would take away their atmosphere, but I actually ended up enjoying them more than ever. But black and white is the ONLY way to go for Hartnell and Troughton, no matter how good the colorization I've seen for these classics are, it really does take away all that great atmosphere, every time. I guess the people who made these stories really knew what they were doing when it came to shooting for black and white versus color television.
